A Year of Action: A Letter from our CEO
2025 Overstory team gathering in the Netherlands
To our customers, partners, and investors,As I look back on 2025, I'm struck by the significant progress we made despite so many challenges across the world. Climate change was felt in every corner of the globe—devastating floods across Africa and Asia, record temperatures in Japan and Argentina, and over 100 million hectares burned by wildfires worldwide, including California's heartbreaking Palisades and Eaton fires. Yet again, severe weather was cited as the leading cause of power outages in the United States.
Yet what strikes me most is not the scale of the challenge, but the inspiring action I've witnessed. In 2025, utilities invested billions in wildfire prevention, transitioning from small pilots to large-scale implementation of new technologies.
True leaders are emerging, deploying tech at scale and providing a roadmap for others to follow. As Andy Abranches, VP of Wildfire Mitigation at PG&E, noted: "Innovation and technology have become the pillars of progress when it comes to wildfire prevention."
“Innovation and technology have become the pillars of progress when it comes to wildfire prevention.”
As our customers scaled their programs, we fundamentally reimagined how we deliver: assembling teams around each customer, automating our processes to move faster, and improving our Overstory Height Model to make risk assessments even more accurate.
We invested deeply in wildfire prevention. We launched a proprietary Fuel Detection Model, helping utilities not only see where a fire might spark, but also analyze the grasses and shrubs that would cause it to spread.
In October, we closed $43 million in Series B funding, which allows us to move faster in tackling these challenges.
We grew to 98 Overstorians working across 12 countries. Our team includes musicians, scientists, artists, gardeners and cyclists — all united by our shared mission to keep communities safe in the face of climate change.
Overstory team validating results in the field
As we look to 2026, I'm energized by what's ahead. We’re continuing our commitment to make risk easy to understand, quantify and address. We’re advancing our capabilities in wildfire and storm resilience and expanding our work to new regions. To do this, we’re adding to our team in strategic areas, hiring a Chief Technology Officer and Director of Remote Sensing, who will shepherd our technical capabilities to the next level.
The momentum we’re seeing is a clear signal of what’s to come. The combination of remote sensing and AI is no longer a fringe technology, but a proven solution used at scale by the most sophisticated utilities.
Many companies talk about changing the world for the better. Few have the talent, partners and focus required to actually do it. I believe Overstory has all three.
I'm deeply grateful to our customers, who have brought us into their organizations so we can build together. Thank you to our investors who believe in this mission, and to every member of our team who brings their best to this work each day.
